The Director and my’s vision was to transport the audience to the 90’s and expose the ins and outs of this down and out, small, wacky, thrust theater.
I used stock materials to build and paint wood and muslin flats. Just like a small theater would have done in the 90’s. To pull this off we had to spend a lot of time hand painting textures and details to give the set a storybook feel .
Nothing is done perfectly. The perspective is off on the side buildings. The snow on top of the buildings seems deflated and flat. I wanted to embrace the imperfections, whether intentional or not.
